This presentation can help you to avoid problems when using Partitioning. The oneliner is : Simple Works Best. The experience (and possibly some demos) is mainly Oracle based, but I am investigating the possibilities of PostgreSQL as well.PostgreSQL is only Starting to get the benefits, but there is Real Potential here.Partitioning will notably help you to store and “manage” large tables of facts or items. Expect Partitioning to be or to become an effective tool to store very large, and often volatile sets of data in a “relational” database.Once you know the possibilities, and the (dis)advantages, and if you know the use-case, you can help deliver a succesful implementation of partitioning.
