Can your hardware handle 1000 orders per hr? (that is only 1 order every 3 seconds - it probably can, yes). Here is how you can find out - without fancy tools or snake-oil consultants. There are a few very basic tricks in capacity planning (and I am not even saying : buy Exa).
Oracle, since v10.x is quite capable of predicting it's own performance and capacity. And some of it is applicable to other components than just your database-hardware.
The basics can be explained in 30min. In a full hr you can even include some jokes. The attendants will learn how to apply a few simple rules of thumb, and can confidently face their architects and managers on the "capacity" issue.

Piet de Visser, author
Piet is an experienced Database Consultant and Administrator.
He is in IT since 1987, and specializes in Oracle- and Databases-related technology since 1994. He combines technical knowledge with extensive experience in global organizations. He also invests a lot of effort in maintaining a network of Like-Minded Oracle specialists worldwide and is a regular speaker at international user group events and symposia. Piet likes to travel (preferably by motorbike), speaks various languages more or less fluently, and is alway interested in learning how to say "Hello" and "Thank You" in a few more languages (provided he can learn it in-situ).
Specialties:Piet specialises in Oracle databases and High-Availability and his philosophy is that Simple systems offer Higher Availability.
